1. TREATY   6:19
"2002 Hillbunny Productions
Words and Music by Bunny Sings Wolf " all rights reserved.
Unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws.

Make this treaty with your heart - to anger don"t give rise

Bless your deadly emotions to the ground - where they can fertilize.

In dust where all dead things are laid and decaying things are cleansed,

And turned into life-giving things, that help all heartaches mend.

So "

Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in there,
Then bury them deep inside.

The earth can take the meanest things that can hurt us all so deep

and transfer them to living things that blossom fresh and sweet.

But If you hoard resentments, hold them tightly in your heart

They will poison you with heartache pain - and that"s where all wars start.

So "

Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in there,
Then bury them deep inside.

In war and anger life is lost.   In conflict something dies!

Why not fill graves with angry words instead of precious lives?

No, don"t carry things of pain around, don"t hold on to their hurt!

Let them go and bury them and cover them with dirt.

So "

Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in there,
Then bury them deep inside.

This treaty nurtures the process grand, built into our mother earth.

Give your anger away to the ground and share in giving birth.

Send life forth, instead of death, by disposing of such waste,

so that peace can grow upon the land, and sweet life we all can taste.
So -
Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in there,
Then bury them deep inside.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:  It is very hard work to hold a grudge.  Much easier to just get out there and dig in the dirt, and in a thoughtful, focused way productively release anger and let it go, thus freeing our hearts for more joyful and productive endeavors.  However, anger"s blessing can only be realized when we use it"s truth and it"s lessons for blessings instead of cursings.  May this song comfort the hearts of those who are honest about their anger, for anger is a proper emotion in many, many instances but dealing with it appropriately gives patience the time and wisdom to think over the emotional response and sometimes even and a workable, peaceful and life honoring way to correct a wrong.  A spade is in the shape of a heart " perhaps this is indeed what it was designed for? Also interesting to note that from a satellite view, the sacred Black Hills is in the shape of a human heart. Perhaps also it is time to honor treaties with more than words - but with TRUE heart....

PROPHECY KEEPER, PROPHECY KEEPER, PROPHECY KEEPER

 TELL ME YOUR GREAT SECRETS

DEEP INSIDE YOUR HEART

TEACHERS OF GREAT WISDOM

TRUTH OF OTHER TIMES

LET THE WIND BLOW, LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN

TO ALL MANKIND AGAIN.

PROPHECY KEEPER,      PROPHECY KEEPER,      OH YEAH!

 LOOK INSIDE THE RAINBOW

LOOK INSIDE THE HEART

DEEP IN THE MOUNTAIN STILLNESS

ECHOES FROM ANOTHER TIME

LET THE WIND BLOW, LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN

TO ALL MANKIND AGAIN.

PROPHECY KEEPER,      PROPHECY KEEPER,      OH YEAH!

 ANCIENT TRUTH SURROUNDS US

LIKE A LOVERS HAND UPON THE HEART

THE VERY BREATH YOU GAVE ME

GROWS INTENTLY THROUGH THE YEARS

(AND VISITS ME IN DREAMS)

SO - LET THE WIND BLOW, LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN

TO ALL MANKIND AGAIN.

IF WE CAN KNOW YOUR WISDOM

TEACH US WHILE YOU CAN

FOR THERE"S A MIGHTY DARK CLOUD

HANGING OVERHEAD

OH YEAH, HANGING OVERHEAD

LET THE WIND BLOW, LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN

TO ALL MANKIND AGAIN.

LET THE WIND BLOW, LET THE TRUTH BE KNOWN

TO ALL MANKIND AGAIN.

PROPHECY KEEPER,      PROPHECY KEEPER,

PROPHECY KEEPER

Custom Flutes (with white buffalo carved "birds", made of spruce, poplar, cedar wood and white birch) used in this recording were custom made and gifted to Bunny by Mark Nelson
(after a pattern by famous Lakota flute maker Daniel Red Buffalo, circa 1946)

Chimes (8 copper pipes with her own special patina, hung on large Elk antler, and special drumstick decorated with white turkey feathers & beadwork) were custom created for Bunny by Artist Christine Nervig of Custer, SD.

UPDATE - as of this writing, though this song has played continually 24/7 on the web, on radio stations around the globe, and thousands of people have heard it and shared it as a "free" download, to date not one penny of money has filtered down or been "earned as profit" to the writer and/or the singer of this song (both who continue to live simple humble lives, Karen working as salad bar attendant at a casino, and Bunny as a convenience store cashier , to earn the needed dollars to pay the monthly rent while continuing to pursue our music dreams as there is yet time and energy to do so.

This powerful song has proven to be as intended, and prayerfully sent from our grandmotherly hearts, a true give away to all our relations.

However, Karen and I have many dreams and projects for the near future, and we trust that when Creator is ready to put our natural gifts and talents to work, the time and abundant resources will be there so that I may continue to send my voice in a good way, with more beautiful prophetic and heart healing songs (over 420) that have come to me in dreams , to share for our times.

3. Wyoming's Yesterday  (6:17)
Words and Music by Patty Clayton " 2000
Cimarron Wind Music BMI

For words to this song email patty@cimarronwind.com .

Written as "Montana's Yesterday" permission granted to change "Montana" lyric to "Wyoming" for this project. Two words - used in a respectful and yet a sorrowful way in this song as originally written in Patty Clayton's song, "Red Skin" became a part of the English vocabulary in a very sad time in America's history. Patty Clayon and Bunny Sings Wolf do not use these words when singing this song in their live performances although it was used in the recorded versions to educate a point well takem. Here is a story that tells why this reference to those of Native American decent is so offensive and hurtful. As told to Bunny Sings Wolf in a letter from her friend, Native American story teller Ralph Moisa, Sr.:

THE THREE SISTERS - SQUASH, CORN, BEANS - AND HOW A RACE IS DISGRACED

Long ago, when the Europeans first came to this continent there were many of us who welcomed them, and helped them to survive, feeding them when they had no food, and teaching them how to plant and cultivate crops that were new to them. We taught them how to plant the three sisters in this manner. To build a mound, a small mound, about a foot in diameter to plant squash on the perimeter of this mound, and corn in the center of it. As the stalks started to grow, we would then plant beans around the rim of the mound. The stalks of corn would grow tall and create a place for the vines of the beans to cling to, as they wound up higher and higher, almost to the tips of each stalk.

The squash would also grow thick around this mound. In this way the plants would help each other grow, and the squash would create a barrier and prevent many animals from disturbing the precious food, for many animals found the leaves of the squash to be irritating and uncomfortable to their skin.

But the Europeans had other ways to grow their crops. They separated the three sisters into fields of their own, yet because of this, they found many difficulties. The deer loved the corn, and without the barrier of the squash, they were free to feast. Gophers also found ways, along with many other critters, into the fields they would all go, and as these small critters moved into the field they brought with them their predators, the wolf, the badger, the fox. As these predators followed the wild game, they found the domesticated chickens and other useful farm animals for food brought in from the new pilgrims and pioneers.

Soon it became necessary for the European visitors, who now claimed this land, to trap and hunt these animals who they now called PESTS. There were soon farmers who paid bounties for the paws or the skins of these "pests", and as communities and cities grew, it was the job of the local government to pay for the bounties of these "skins".

As this was happening, relationships between the native peoples and the new arrivals became strained and even dangerous. We were no longer thought of as helpful friends. We were now in the way, and we had to be dealt with. So, along with the wolf skin, the fox skin and the badger skin, there joined a new pest, the Red Skinned. You see, when you scalp an Indian (a practice brought to these lands from Europe), the skin of my relatives turns a reddish color, unlike that of the Europeans, which turns pale.

Red Skin - these two words bring sadness and bad memories to many of our peoples, and I have spoken on many occasions trying to educate those who would listen.

At times I am successful at touching the hearts of those who could bring forth change. At times, my words fall on deaf ears of those who dig in their heels and cling to their own tradition. So, you see, Red Skin is like the N word among the black people. They do not mind using it among their own community, but if another race uses it, it is thought of as very, very hurtful.

I share this story as  best as I can recall, as it is a very well known story among very many of the more than 500 tribes decimated and separated from their lands and ways of life, also passed down to me from my relatives. BSW

4. Black Mountain Mist Woman  (5:36)
Words and Music by Bunny Sings Wolf " 2001 Hillbunny Productions ASCAP

Bunny's first recorded DREAM song, written on a sleepy drive through scenic Spearfish Canyon September 2000, with her barefeet on the dashboard. She woke up, not too far from the place of the historic Latchstring Inn and near where the famous line "Dances with Wolves you are my friend!" was filmed .
Two photos to the left were taken that day while the mist mysteriously, lovingly caressed the tops of the trees as we drove by...

With my bare feet on the dashboard, I watch as you drive the curve.
The pine trees rise into the sky to embrace the soaring bird.
You drove me through the green valleys beyond the prairie plains,
Up through the Spearfish Canyon where we felt home again.
And though they tore the old Latchstring out and the wolves that dance are gone
I'll keep this place deep in my soul and visit it in song.
Since you showed me green so green - its black - and blue so blue - it's sky.
I'll be your woman in the black mountain mist, and you never, never need ask why.
I know I stayed away too long and struggled too hard with the wind,
And waited too long in fear and doubt to let my song begin.
But when one knows the pain of so much loss and the sorrow from the unjust
It takes some time to gather strength and learn a deeper trust.
But when it comes, it's stronger yet and joyous in its flight,
Far from crushing deep wet snows, or the howling, frightful night.
Since you showed me green so green - its black - and blue so blue - it's sky.
I'll be your woman in the black mountain mist, and you never, never need ask why.
You're a man born in these forests, I've seen it's streams run through your soul,
It's secret quiet holds your thought, with serenity its goal. And as you drive the Black Hills - they also drive deep in your being
Your heart so wide and open as the peaceful canyons I am seeing.
Your manly strength is my comfort - yet in gentle soft you yield.
Your life on this land becomes you as the large round hay bales on the field.
In the green so green - its black - and blue so blue - it's sky.
I'll be your woman in the black mountain mist, and you never, never need ask why.
Green so green - its black, and blue so blue it's sky
I'll be your woman in the black mountain mist, and you never, Never, never, never, never, need ask why.

O. Lee Engberg, who is the Producer of this and all my other music CDs, and my best South Dakota Cowboy buddy , was raised by these hills and prairies .  Without him these songs may never have surfaced.

Lee and Bunny, Red Rock Ranch, Newcastle, Wyoming

In his teens, at his families' ranch named by his father, the original Ghost Canyon Ranch (in Hermosa, SD) he guided 10 day pack trips for visiting city folk, taking them the scenic route to Mt. Rushmore and beauty parts undiscovered in the Black Hills.  It was Lee who blazed the first trail up the backside of Harney Peak.

Upon
leaving the family ranch to attend college, Lee spent his earlier years as rodeo announcer throughout South Dakota and North Dakota.  Later he became radio announcer at one of the nations' first (and possibly the last) 50,000 clear watt channel radio stations, a television announcer and Producer, and went on to be a top 40's Disc Jockey. Graduating with an Economics degree he entered the business world, spending his majority of time as a successful oil industry executive, and later, traveling the country arranging my music tours.  Lee now spends his full time planning future music CDs as my Producer. His love of these rocks and hills is contagious, and here I have at last found my ancestral home.

5.   Growing Old (4:15)
"  2003 Words and Music by Bunny Sings Wolf , Hillbunny Productions All Rights Reserved

Now that the Spring is gone, all that was right now seems so wrong and I don"t know if I belong " Now I"m growing old.

Things that were fast are slow, as I watch each each step I go,

I was feeling high but now I"m low " Now I"m growing old.

Always thought the friends I had would always be right here

Now the truth is clear " Now I"m growing old.

Children grown and moved away, grandchildren run and play
While I'm left to live each day - Now I'm growing old.

World has left me behind, too fast to watch the signs,
And I'm feeling too weak to change their mind - Now I'm growing old

Wonder if they'll ever love the things I leave behind
I hope that Love's still blind - Now I'm growing old.

Yet each day of living is more beautiful, than all the words I could ever know,
And thinking of all those many precious times of loving,
has filled my heart with the warmest glow.

It's too late to complain, guess  I'll take the sunshine and the rain,
And love the laughter and the pain - Now I'm growing old.

And yet, in it's blindness and uncaring - the world still has more
beauty than I can sing!
And looking forward to more lovely times of loving,
Has made me realize that
love is everything!
LOVE  is every thing!

So now I'll not complain, I'll just take the sunshine and the rain,
And love the laughter and the pain - Now I'm growing old.

"What the caterpillar calls the END of the world - the Master calls the butterfly!"
Richard Bach from his book "Illusions"

Growing old is a good thing for it beats the alternative!  However beyond that thought lies the fact that with age often comes the priceless beauty of wisdom, and transformations, fear-inspiring as they are.
This IS the joy and miracle of the entire process of life!

Recording costs for the Growing Old, Liberty, and Prophecy Keeper song were augmented by Wyoming Arts Council in the Prophecy Keeper CD.  These songs are now happily re-released in Treaty Lands

Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources
Supported in part by the Wyoming Arts Council through funding from
the National Endowment for the Arts
and the Wyoming State Legislature.

The story of this jpg Photo I took of my April 2004
Full Moon Moth
Wondering if my songs would ever be heard...
all winter I had watched the large gray cocoon,
affixed securely to the sage I'd planted at the front steps of my walk.  Un-dauntingly, secretly,  it stayed secured  and camouflaged, matching  perfectly the color of the Wyoming sage -  through snows, winds, rain, and finally Spring.  While working in the yard on the full moon day of  April 2004, I met this beautiful creature perched atop the cocoon, as I kneeled practically nose to nose with the ornately painted
White Buffalo skull
on her red shawl (similar to the one on the
Wyoming Arts Council logo now a part of the
"Prophecy Keeper" CD project!)
She kept me company there all day, occasionally gently fanning her glorious wings in the breezes until the full moon rose - when she flew away silently, into the night.  Pilamayeah!

(Lakota word translation=thank you, this makes me feel happy)

so - growing older can actually lead to dreams coming true and a time of life to revel in complete and joyful...un-abandoned...

6. Liberty (3:14)
"  2004 Words and Music by Bunny Sings Wolf , Hillbunny Productions All Rights Reserved

- written December, 2004  after many lessons that month in Casper, Wyoming, when I learned to finally STAND BESIDE MYSELF and accept who I AM , along with all the dreams and the songs that come so beautifully with them!  Now I am truly "
beside myself" with joy and a peace in my life I only imagined before now. Here are the lyrics of the Liberty song so that you may stand beside yourself also and accept a natural right of the gift of life we all hold inside us if we can only see and accept it...Liberty...

Once I was lonely, now I am happy, Once I was crying, But now I laugh

and I thought surely my life was over, until I finally let go the past.

It wasn't really as hard as I thought, it wasn't nearly so long a path,

Instead of trudging, I just started skipping, and then I really, let go the past.

And now, and now,  I find myself beside you,

and Now, and Now - ( the FIRST day of my life! )

I see, I see,  a rainbow all around me,

and that joy that surrounds me, I call my Liberty!

No longer wondering, no longer waiting, no longer praying to see the light,

It shines before me, and washes o'r me, I found the sunrise beyond the long night.

No longer mourning, no longer sighing, no longer wanting to be elsewhere,

No longer hiding, nor justifying, now with heart vision, see my way clear!

And now, and now,  I find myself beside you,

and Now, and Now - ( the FIRST day of my life! )

I see, I see,  a rainbow all around me,

and that joy that surrounds me, I live in Liberty!

I LIVE in Liberty!

7. Blind at Three Forks (3:47)
Words and Music by Bunny Sings Wolf " 2001 Hillbunny Productions ASCAP

You said you'd call me, you haven't - I wait and I wonder and I cry
You told me our love is beginning - but I'm standing here feeling it die
You kissed me, but not with feeling - you smiled, but just from your face
My doubt about your sincerity is a haunting your words can't erase
It's like Standing, blind, at three forks - not seeing past the bend in the road
Standing, blind, at three forks - not sure of the way I should go.
Excuses mark your conversation, as your eyes wander all 'round the room
You laugh at the doubt I'm expressing - and your cheer seems to add to my gloom
My questions are met with derision - my truth is far different than yours
And as you work hard to explain it - I feel myself edge for the door.
Standing, blind, at three forks - not seeing past the bend in the road
Standing, blind, at three forks - not sure of the way I should go.
Worried and un-holy, Stuck in the past, Goals reached too slowly,
Life moves too fast.
Too busy, too tired, Too rushed, too mired, In stuff, in routine -
Stop for a dream!
Search for the cause. Remember to breathe. Remember to pause.
Give way to peace.
Unclutter your life. It's ok to cry. Let go. Release. Simplify - SIMPLIFY!
No, I've never been much good at directions - writing them is such an ordeal
Then reading while driving is a problem - with my white knuckles turning the wheel.
No, I can't stand at three forks forever - can't keep my life always on hold
Got to choose for myself a direction - and get moving on back down the road.
Not, Standing, blind, at three forks - not seeing past the bend in the road
Standing, blind, at three forks - not sure of the way I should go.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: This song was written while I stopped to buy gas at Three Forks Country Store between Hill City, Keystone and the junction that turns also North to Deadwood and Lead, my present home.  It's a song about situations and relationships that are confusing (with an unknown "hidden agenda") and seem to be going nowhere - and that are probably better left behind!  This song marks the BEGINNING of my music dreams - all I needed to do was take that first step down the right path!!!

8. Trail of Tears  (4:15)
Words and Music by Randy Handley " 1985 Tessa Publishing Company BMI

Words to this beautiful song gifted, and printed on Bunny's website on June 13, 2004 by special permission of
songwriting legend, Randy Handley. Pilamayeah!

No more beautiful moons may we spend on our land
in the North the Scarlet Council talks of war
and the Long Knives have massacred a Tribe at Burnt Corn We're not welcome in our homes anymore.

There''ll be a trail of tears, There''ll be a trail of pain  Jackson wants the Mississippi and his twenty dollar bill,
but for us the trail of tears will remain.

No more songs of the hunters on the buffalo trails
No more smoke from sacred fires through these hills
and the number of the people will grow fewer every mile
and the children will not learn Great Spirits' will

There''ll be a trail of tears, There''ll be a trail of pain  Jackson will have the Mississippi and his twenty dollar bill, but how long will the trail of tear remain.

On the streets of Rapid City, on the road to Wounded Knee
There is Whiskey for forgetting everything

But the Old Ones say there may be time
for learning from each other,
the WAY that it was once meant to be

There is still a trail of tears, There is still a trail of pain  Jackson has the Mississippi and his twenty dollar bill, but how long will the trail of tear remain?

How today will you use your hands?

Bunny chose to color her song to show consistency and beauty in the rainbow colors of seasons, awareness of the circular flow of changes in life that all seem to come in Fours and directly relate to fingers for the finger "dance"  action used in presenting this song as a memory and decision tool to use our hands (activities) wisely in relation to the circle of life teachings wise Grandmothers in indigenous Americas used to teach their Grandchildren about the circle and sacredness of life:

In this song the hand is used as the circle of life teaching tool

Index finger  =North   2nd finger=East    3rd finger=South  little finger=West

Purple represents the CENTER of the circle, challenges, higher truths, and/or encouragements for spiritual reflection, without which there cannot be wholeness, and the THUMBS UP which denotes GOOD ACTION (one cannot pick up or do much without a thumb) therefore the thumb, purple, reflects a higher power, God, Spirit, Creator, and intervention of the unknown but overseeing greater and beyond us

Green represents positive "self talk" reminders to help us manifest, give energy towards creating a successful human life.

Blue represents negative things that don"t open our hands for goodness.

Black and White copies of this original song have been distributed during Bunny Sings Wolf  workshops.

It is suggested that each person trace their own hand in the middle of a page and color each directional word and phrase process for themselves as a way of thinking about natural organic realities, the gifts we have been given with our own ability to have a hand in our lives, and to remind of the responsibility we share to live in harmony with the natural world for the goodness, abundance, health, freedom and prosperity of ourselves and the whole cosmos of which we are a part.  Mitakuye Oyasin

No More Chains, to bind around my heart again,
No More Chains, to clang around my life
No More Chains
No More Chains

No More Chains to lock and close a padlock to
No More Chains to give my worry to
No More Chains
No More Chains

Let "em rob me blind " I"ll still have peace of mind
Let "em strip me bare " I"ll be smiling everywhere
Let "em take it all " I"ll still have all my love to send
Cause I won"t live again
In chains.

No More Chains to make me feel secure again
No More Chains, they"re really not my friends
No More Chains
No More Chains

There aught to be a verse here "bout pickup trucks and prison
"Bout the sins of education, religion and national pride.
But they don"t hold a candle, to the illusions I bound myself to
While pretending I was free " I was chained inside.

Now I"ll run " with nothing to drag behind
Now I"ll fly " with nothing to hold me down
Now I"ll sing " without that clanging harmony
There won"t be any part of me
In chains

There won"t be any part of me
In chains. There won"t be any part of me in chains.

12. Paha Sapa Polusa   (2:38)
Words and Music by Bunny Sings Wolf " 2001 Hillbunny Productions ASCAP

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: Paha Sapa is Lakota (Sioux) word for Black Hills. Polusa is a word added to the end by a would be rock concert promoter who requested Bunny write a song for her scheduled performance at his concert by that name. The July 2000 concert was cancelled due to lack of good planning, but Bunny's song, inspired by a quiet drive through the "ghost" town of "Moon", reflects the words and music just as she "heard"  it in the forest that day, complete with David Allen's Lakota vocables recorded in harmony on the first cut of the last verse...

Riding through the hills on a sunny day and stopped to hear a song along the way
Heard Music in the water, music in the skies, music in the wind that passes as I ride
They sang PA HA SA PA PO LU SAH
Dance under blue skies sing under stars
PA HA SA PA PO LU SAH
Listen for the truth then sing it out LOUD. Sing it out loud.

I wondered why man works so hard to bury deep, a truth these hills so clearly speak
How long vanity, ego, power and greed will be left to leave this earth to bleed
And I sang PA HA SA PA PO LU SAH
Dance under blue skies sing under stars
PA HA SA PA PO LU SAH
Listen for the truth then sing it out LOUD. Sing it out loud.
And the answer speaks yet in the wind, about a day soon to begin
When the highest power will right all wrongs, and the painful ways of mankind are gone
Then forever we'll sing PA HA SA PA PO LU SAH
Dance under blue skies sing under stars
PA HA SA PA PO LU SAH Then we'll know the truth and sing it out LOUD.
FOREVER Sing it out loud.

Most asked question:    "How can I get a copy of Bunny's latest new songs that I  heard at her concerts?"

Most of Bunny's ORIGINAL SONGS (upward of 420 at last count) have "arrived" usually at 3:00 a.m., in the form of dreams  since Bunny has been living at home in the Black Hills.  Waking her from deep sleep - playing in her head - complete with words and music, she records them, to learn and share later. In honoring this unique music gift, Bunny feels a solemn responsibility to the Creator to use her voice and carry these songs to as many people as possible.  Lyrics of some of these songs, yet unreleased on CD, may be found on Unreleased Lyrics page.
