Mitakuye Oyasin
(Lakota - we are
all related - all my relations!)
This music is inspired and created
in the the Black Hills and surrounding sage covered prairies. I send my voice with heartfelt
gratitude for those who hold and live by these teachings, those
of the buffalo nation, and all who have given their commitment
and repeated heartfelt prayers for this dream, and any who are
willing to understand the need, the beauty, and power of song as
"medicine" in the ways it touches hearts and activities in a
good way, that the people, and future generations may LIVE!
(listen to and/or purchase all songs on this
album in box below)

More CD Liner Notes:
Special thanks to Sharyn Healy,
Karen Tepoel and Bairi Heath for their generous support;
and very SPECIAL thanks to Grandma Margaret Yankton, Pine Ridge, SD for prayers and
blessing the Lakota words, and Charles Fast Horse, Hill City,
SD, for help in interpreting the Freedom song that came in a
dream.

Oyate! Wamayankapo! (Lakota- Nation! People! Look
at me - pay attention!)
When the mountain trembled and I held on tight
And knew that hanging wouldn’t save me
Still I strengthened my grip, praying rather than hoping
Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near!
I saw the lightening, almost slow motion
As it spiraled down to fill my being with it’s light
And I knew I could travel to another world in a second
Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near!
When that voice, rustled across the long wire
Shaking into my awareness it’s cold familiarity
It seemed almost like my stomach heard, rather than my ear.
Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near!
It wasn’t without warning, I saw it coming, but denied the voices the
sounds, the reality
So it’s not surprising, this uprising as my beating heart expands,
No speeches, no bands,
It’s just the last hail
For the end is near!
Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near! Hail! The end is near!
STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
I begin my “White
Haired Sunrise” CD with "The End" - something always needed before the
beginning can happen. It's a song of wonder and awe at
reality-shifting experiences. Certainly, if we fail to read the
subtle signs that always precede disasters or major life changes we can
get caught up in the disbelief and fear that are set aflame there.
However, if we face and survive our worst fears of the "dark night" -
these shifts always hold great lessons and healing towards new and more
effective ways of being - a new beginning!
The underlying idea is best put by Richard
Bach in his Messiah's Handbook from his book "Illusions"
page 177

"...What the Caterpillar calls the end of the
world
the Master calls a Butterfly"
In order to create and leave room for new
beginnings and learnings we must first embrace a few terrifying endings
in the process.
At the time I first scribbled these words on a little tiny piece of paper
I was experiencing what I believed were some very critical and overwhelming life challenges,
never imagining that one day these words in song might mirror
the feelings of so many across the globe who watch helplessly while
things that appear beyond their control (warfare, unemployment, illness, death,
relationship changes, weather, natural or economic disasters) create major gut
wrenching emotions and the need for some serious action or a new
understanding, in order to come through them effectively and intact.
However, the fact is that
CHANGE IS the stuff that life is made of, and as the rest of my songs
(based on my life experienced learnings) go on to relate, there are many ways of
walking in and honoring truth, beauty, courage, love and wisdom that can
restore ten-fold any losses experienced in the night of our worst fears.
By facing the facts head-on and acting in harmony with universal
principles a healing process can begin - and the chains of mis-information,
belief in un-realities can be replaced with a new life course reflecting an
ever deeper appreciation and honoring of the gift of life...

Chains 3:00

©2002 Hillbunny Productions
Words and Music by Bunny Sings Wolf – all rights reserved.

No More Chains, to bind around my heart again,
No More Chains, to clang around my life
No More Chains
No More Chains
No More Chains to lock and close a padlock to
No More Chains to give my worry to
No More Chains
No More Chains
Let ‘em rob me blind – I’ll still have peace of mind
Let ‘em strip me bare – I’ll be smiling everywhere
Let ‘em take it all – I’ll still have all my love to send
Cause I won’t live again
In chains.
No More Chains to make me feel secure again
No More Chains, they’re really not my friends
No More Chains
No More Chains
There aught to be a verse here ‘bout pickup trucks and prison
‘Bout the sins of education, religion and national pride.
But they don’t hold a candle, to the illusions I bound myself to
While pretending I was free – I was chained inside.
Now I’ll run – with nothing to drag behind
Now I’ll fly – with nothing to hold me down
Now I’ll sing – without that clanging harmony
There won’t be any part of me
In chains
There won’t be any part of me
In chains. There won’t be any part of me in chains.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
There are so many frustrating things in life that can make us feel all
locked up. “Chains” is a sort of
protest song - and like the "Freedom" song, later in the CD - to carry
chains or to be free of them is a personal decision. Once that truth is faced, the chains can all fall off. The
inspiration for the song began innocently enough.
My sister, Becky Jo Benson, came for a visit in between gigs (she sings
with Randy Sparks’ New Christy Minstrels) and she arrived sure that
somewhere on her bus ride to Rapid City, SD, that someone who had access
to the luggage had tried to steal her bags. So, on the trip home (From
Sundance, WY where we dropped her off to California parts unknown) she
was determined and feeling pretty well prepared to thwart any would-be thieves on this trip.
 |
She bought
4 long chains and those little padlocks with combinations to use to tie
all her bags together. She had an ice chest on wheels with a handle (she pasted a sign on the ice chest which read ‘IMPORTANT TAX
PAPERS!” – since she figured NO one would want to steal tax papers – ha,
ha!!!) and three other little bags. So just before the bus
arrived to pick her up, my sister, a friend and I chained up all the bags together
and locked all the little padlocks to secure it. When the bus
arrived the bus driver told Becky that he was running late and that
chaining bags together were
NOT company policy approved. But, my sister INSISTED that he allow
them in the baggage compartment explaining in great detail her last bus
experience and all the reasons why she was sure that her bags had been
tampered with and almost had been stolen if she had not been right there
to catch the would-be thieves. Not wanting to waste any time
arguing, the bus driver reluctantly nodded to allow the three of us to
toss the chained up bags into the bus baggage
compartment.
Whoops! Just as we slid them in, ALL the chains fell off!
The irritated driver said “I’ve got to go” – my sister retorted |
| “NOT
until I know my bags are secure – this will just take a moment!”
So, once again - here we were… Lee, me and my sister frantically
trying to chain up all the bags together and lock the little
padlocks to secure it while the bus driver looked on!!! Of
course we had to UN-DO all those little three digit padlocks first –
but in a record 5 minutes, we had the whole mess un-woven,
un-locked, re-woven and and padlocked in chains. |
|
We slid the “secured” mess into the baggage compartment. Auuuuugh! – ALL THE CHAINS FELL OFF AGAIN!!!!!
The now VERY irritated driver said “I’ve got to go” – and my sister
retorted all the more firmly - “NOT until I know my bags are
secure – this will just take a moment!”
The whole process of
unlocking and relocking the chains was accomplished in another 5 minute
segment, and the bags were heaved into the baggage compartment for a THIRD TIME!!! – This is a TRUE
story! YES! The chains all fell OFF AGAIN!!!
|
The bus driver said “That’s it – you get
into the bus or else I’m leaving without you!” My sister sheepishly
shrugged, hugged me goodbye while all the other passengers on the window
on our side side of the bus looked on.
The bags
and their piles of chains and padlocks beside them were left in the
baggage compartment as the baggage door
slammed shut behind them. And the bus was gone before I could
realize just exactly had happened in the last 12 minutes.
That night I woke up at my magic 3:00 a.m. song writing time – with the
giggles – thinking to myself “those bags just didn’t WANT to be chained
up, I guess!” – and the song “Chains” was singing in my head.

White Haired
SUNRISE 3:46

I met the white-haired lady who lives in the
East, whose dancing eyes sparkle with stars
She spoke in soft whispers, not audible to ears, their meanings were
heard in my heart,
Their meanings were heard by my heart.
I met the white-haired lady who lives in the East, we sat at a table
covered in lace,
Woven so fine as a Mother-spider’s web, reflecting the sun from her face,
Reflecting the sun IN her face.
She served me refreshments, as she spoke of the past, in volumes the
meanings were wise,
She knew of all my yearnings to know life’s mysteries, and brought all
of my cares down to size,
Brought all of life’s cares down to size.
As tulips bloomed from a vase, she chuckled me past troubling things
that only now seemed,
Her movements were gentle, brisk as a spring breeze, As she gestured me
t’ward all my dreams,
She gestured me TO ALL my dreams.
She spoke of the future, a time of great joy, to comfort my heart full
of tears,
As white billowing clouds in a golden sunrise
Her presence made the way seem so clear
As she lovingly calmed my night fears.
I met the white-haired lady who lives in the East, whose dancing eyes
sparkle with stars
She spoke in soft whispers, not audible to ears, their meanings were
heard by my heart,
Their meanings were heard IN my heart.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: This song was written about how I feel when I
see the sun come up each morning, as if I have had a wonderful,
comforting visit with a grandmotherly white haired lady. Sunrises
always give me peace and hope, especially after a long dark night. Photo was taken the last day I recorded
this CD, on the way to the recording studio as we drove across the
prairie plains through Custer State Park, seeing buffalo, eagles, hawks,
deer, three ravens, and a huge gathering of wild turkeys along the way. Certainly
these natural things living in beauty remind us that as long as there is
life, there is a future.

You can’t live in the past, you can’t live in
beyond.
Tomorrow lies ahead, and yesterday is gone.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to breathe.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to see
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to be.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to give.
You must learn to live.
This planet calls to you to heal the hurt that’s done.
The oceans tears are many, there are black spots on the sun.
The animals are calling, the heavens hear their voice.
The day of judgment beacons, it’s time to make your choice.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to breathe.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to see.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to be.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to give.
You must learn to live.
You cannot change your neighbor, you cannot change your friend.
You cannot change your family, you can change the end.
But you can change your thinking, be a warrior now for living
Courageously live for harmony, for loving and for giving.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to breathe.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to see.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to be
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to give.
You must learn to live.
You can’t live in the past, you can’t live in beyond.
Tomorrow lies ahead, and yesterday is gone.
Now is the time, now is the time, you must learn to live.

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: The song was given to me about a year ago
on an overnight stay in Pipestone, SD, not too far from the quarry where
the red stone has been mined by folks from diverse tribes for many, many
years from which the prayer (peace) pipe is made. It was a very
tall ancient chief who gifted me with the words and I wondered after I
wrote them down at how simple these thoughts are. Each time I sing
it, I learn more from it, and it seems to remind me that each moment is
a gift that needs to be cherished and lived with wisdom and appreciation
– for NOW is something we CAN do something about!
One of the investors who gave their support for this
music CD ... shared these words which I will always cherish and continue
to attempt to live up to:

I – WHITE HORSE 3:23

With horsetail hair raised high in the clouds - I
thunder, I lightning, I dance!
Galloping across the prairie - Heart joyful in the trance!
With my nose flared I breathe in the wind - I hold my head up high
My hooves leave their mark below - My flying mane tickles the sky.
If you run fast, two legged – you’ll not catch up with me!
I’ll come to you in night dreams, when you awake, I flee,
For I am white horse spirit!
Freedom is my honor - while I circle, I step, I spin
The noises of my hoof beats - keep time upon the wind.
My head I toss from side to side – my yes aglow with knowing
My thoughts are fluent, noble – and I KNOW where I’m going.
If you run fast, two legged – you’ll not catch up with me!
I’ll come to you in night dreams, when you awake, I flee!
I am white horse spirit!
My evening breath I offer as – I sing, I laugh, I pray.
Long legged steps upon this earth are the gentle ways I play.
And when I roll upon the ground – and kick dust in the air
You’ll see the place where I have lain – and know that I was here.
If you run fast, two legged – you’ll not catch up with me!
I’ll come to you in night dreams, when you awake, I flee!
I am white horse spirit!
Yes! I AM white horse spirit!
STORY BEHIND THE SONG:
I dreamed that a local Newcastle, Wyoming ranchers’ white horse was
singing a beautiful song to me, and in my dream I began to harmonize. We sang
together for a long time while the rancher looked on, puffing on his
cigarette unimpressed. When the song was over I turned to him and
said “Wow! Wasn’t that amazing, your horse SINGS!
And so beautifully, too!”
In my dream, he snuffed out his cigarette, looked up at the large,
beautiful star-filled heavens, and said “Oh, he does that ALL the time”
and then strolled into his ranch house to join others who were gathered
at his house. I looked at the horse, and said to him, “Let’s do THAT
again, shall we?” So we sang another song from our hearts, with no one
but the stars and the moon, the evening breezes and the vast Wyoming
night sky to hear us!

I awoke after the dream and thought that probably horses sing all the time, we just need to listen and learn their song. I prayed, that if
there IS such a song, that I might learn it, and honor it by sharing it
with all the world as proof that all things carry their own special
song (power or "medicine"), if we only just stop to appreciate and “listen.” I fell back to
sleep and woke at my “magic” song writing hour – 3:00 a.m. – with this
song and these lyrics playing in my head.
Above right is a photo of that horse with the rancher riding him, his wife
beside him at a recent roundup we took part in at their Wyoming ranch.
Left photo is the rancher’s wife, Sharon, riding that smiling white
horse. Sharon, a very talented full time potter well known in the
area for her pots depicting many of the petro-glyphs found along the rocks
in the hillside behind their ranch, says she is truly inspired
by my music and claims she listens to my CD’s every day while she
creates in her potter’s studio. About horses that sing she adds “
Probably most ranchers know that horses sing, we just don’t talk about
it much!”
It is especially thrilling to me that there are more than the evening
breezes and a Wyoming night sky that can now hear and know this song,
and having it recorded to share with you is truly a dream-prayer come
true!

Wind in my Hair

Pencil Portraits by Bunny
from your favorite photograph Here's a portrait Bunny did of a
"Sturgis" bike rally supporter - the following song lyrics
say the rest...

The days are long, the nights are longer, while I
wait for the time
I can get on my ride, and head down the line.
The night is calling,
I’m out the door,
I can already feel the roar!
The wind in my hair, it suits me
For that moment in time I feel free
Through life’s ups and downs, in a world full of clowns
When I’m riding I don’t have a care,
as long as there’s wind in my hair.
I’m thinking of Sturgis, those tramsters are howlin’,
I can hear them for miles away
So I’m up in the night, like the shootin’ star bright
With fate as my partner,
I won’t ride alone,
don’t wait up,
don’t expect me to phone.
The wind in my hair, it suits me
For that moment in time I feel free
Through life’s ups and downs, in a world full of clowns
When I’m riding I don’t have a care,
as long as there’s wind in my hair.
Oh the road is a teacher, companion, carrying me to things of the heart.
It’s bumps and its rocks jar my consciousness, to spaces of quiet and
thought.
While the roar of my engine surrounds me, blurring out all other sounds,
I vibrate to a high as a hawk in the sky, as I’m rumbling through
valleys and towns.
Yes, the road is my star and my healer
Taking me to the place where I live,
With my eyes full of tears, I travel light years,
while humanity, just rolls on by. Yes,
the days are long, the nights are longer, while I wait for the time
I can get on my ride, and head down the line.
The night is calling,
I’m out the door,
I can already feel the roar!
The wind in my hair, it suits me
For that moment in time I feel free
Through life’s ups and downs, in a world full of clowns
When I’m riding I don’t have a care,
as long as there’s wind in my hair.
STORY BEHIND THE SONG: Photo
above is a pencil portrait I did of a “biker”
who visited the Black Hills a few years back. Christine Voyles
wrote the beginning verses of this song as 'WIND IN MY HAIR - Ode to Sturgis”
as she
looked forward to her friends who would come each summer for the
motorcycle rally and long happy hours of riding the winding roads
through the Black Hills. As I heard her sing it at a songwriters
showcase performance in Hill City, I noticed her honest feelings also
had worth to people who may have never been on a “Harley” but who longed
for that same feeling of freedom while traveling the road of life with
joy. So, with her permission, I added a few verses, and the result
is one that I hope all who love the adventure of life’s diverse travels,
with it’s twists and turns, can identify with. Happy travels!

Wild Roses 3:02

Some wild roses made me think of you today…
Growing wild and free and beautiful,
Cheering up the world with constant blooming –
Smiling flowers extended out
Through sunshine wind, snow and rain and dark -
In the quiet of sunrise and sunset times,
They sing as they keep growing
And blooming and sharing their sweet fragrances
With flower lovers and mindless passers-by - Alike
While they respond to the lonely light of moon
And the bright, bright energy of the warm and nurturing sun.
Some wild roses made me think of you today…
Growing wild and free and beautiful! Growing wild and free and
beautiful!

PHOTO (above): There is
nothing a sweet as the smell of a rose! I dedicate on this CD this
song to Sharyn Healy for her work as a Optometrist, her love of her family and
her animals, and her encouragement and support of my music.
Often times the work and dedication and “give away” spirit of good
people go as unnoticed as the precious fragrance and beauty of wild
roses – yet I honor this kindness, and hope any people that you know who
also unselfishly display these marvelous qualities of trust, support,
and giving, will be given the
recognition they deserve. With hugs and thanks I send this song to all
you Wild Roses out there - keep blooming!

MOON 3:46

Moo-ooo-oon (sung as a wolf howl)
Comforting one, that comes as the sun, goes it’s journey away
So that here in the dark night, there’s always a light, to brighten our
way
Then traveling on, you take us along, to another new day
Moon – showing the way in the dark
where we’re never alone
Bringer of dreams, as you twilight the screams, of the black ravens call
You drift through the clouds, where mystery shrouds, your radiant ball
Making your mark, while the night skies you chart
past the shooting star fall
Moon – showing the way in the dark
where we’re never alone.
Your beams touch the place, where my ancestors traced,
before they laid down.
In your silent beams, I’ve also seen, the beauty they found
And as I go to sleep, your luminance keeps, the world going round
Moon – showing the way in the dark
where we’re never alone.
Yes the bat and the owl, the coyotes that howl, all keep watch at your
glow
Spider and frog, the raccoon in the log, learn the things that you show
And as time passes on, we can all learn the song, if we’re willing to
know
Moon – showing the way in the dark
where we’re never alone.
Moon. Moo-ooo-oon (sung as a wolf howl)

10. Wild Mountain Climb 3:20
Words and Music by Dave Gershen

I chose this song for this album to honor Dave Gershen who I first met
as he was singing and playing his drum on the Pearl Street Mall in
Boulder, Colorado. That day in 1993, I was a very stressed office
worker out on the mall for my lunch break, and I was his only listener. But I
heard that his words came from his conviction, and I instantly
recognized and valued the tenacity and courage that it took for him to
sing them, even though few stopped to listen. Perhaps had I not stopped
that day to truly hear his song, I may never have paused to hear the
songs that had been begging for my attention that reverberated deep within my own
heart. Thank you Dave, for sharing your song there, and here, with words
that can give us all courage to seek and climb far above the storm of
these times, and have the hope that loving hearts all around the globe
(though it seems no one listens) CAN encourage one another to climb to
their good intentions with action, share their unique gifts, and hold
love, harmony and peace on and for this planet and for future
generations.

TREATY 6:19

Make this treaty with your heart - to anger don’t
give rise
Bless your deadly emotions to the ground - where they can fertilize.
In dust where all dead things are laid and decaying things are cleansed,
And turned into life-giving things, that help all heartaches mend.
So –
Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in
there,
Then bury them deep inside.
The earth can take the meanest things that can hurt us all so deep
and transfer them to living things that blossom fresh and sweet.
But If you hoard resentments, hold them tightly in your heart
They will poison you with heartache pain - and that’s where all wars
start.
So –
Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in
there,
Then bury them deep inside.
In war and anger life is lost. In conflict something dies!
Why not fill graves with angry words instead of precious lives?
No, don’t carry things of pain around, don’t hold on to their hurt!
Let them go and bury them and cover them with dirt.
So –
Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in
there,
Then bury them deep inside.
This treaty nurtures the process grand, built into our mother earth.
Give your anger away to the ground and share in giving birth.
Send life forth, instead of death, by disposing of such waste,
so that peace can grow upon the land, and sweet life we all can taste.
So -
Dig a hole in the soil, make it deep and wide, speak your angry words in
there,
Then bury them deep inside.
STORY BEHIND THE SONG: It
is very hard work to hold a grudge. Much easier to just get out there
and dig in the dirt, and in a thoughtful, focused way productively release anger and let it
go, thus freeing our hearts for more joyful endeavors. May this song
comfort the hearts of those who are honest about their anger, for anger
is a proper emotion in many, many instances. However, anger’s blessing
can only be realized when we use it’s truth and it’s lessons for
blessings instead of cursings. Interesting to note that a spade is also
in the shape of a heart – perhaps this is indeed what it was designed
for?

One by One - By each other, By the fire, By the dark
From one to two - from our past, from our love and From our heart
Two just two - to our being, to our lives
We’re on our way
By and from, and to and for, on yesterday we close a door,
At and in we enter new, a door just big enough for two,
Two THAT FACE TOWARDS FOREVER - at our threshold with united thought,
Two just two, in our sharing, in our going for ALL we’ve got,
Two just two, for our comfort, for our peace FROM THIS OUR SPECIAL DAY
Just me, just you, Just us, Us - two.
You and I, now one into a door just big enough for two.
You and I towards forever - at our threshold with united thought,
You and I now are sharing, in our going for all we’ve got,
You and I, now in our prayers – for our peace - from this our special
day!

LOVE IS A POWER 3:30

Love made the grass, love made the trees, love made the flower,
love made the bees,
Love made the fish, love made the deer, love made all breathing things,
everything that’s here,
Love is a power, greater than fear
Love is a power greater than tears
Love is a power
Learn of it’s ways
To power a new world and a new day.
Love made the stars the distant galaxies, love mad the moons,
the suns, the vast seas,
Love made the mountains and all their water streams, love made the day
light
The night and all it’s sweet dreams
Love is a power, greater than fear
Love is a power greater than tears
Love is a power
Learn of it’s ways
To power a new world and a new day.
Love isn’t jealous, love isn’t greedy , love doesn’t brag, doesn’t use
the needy,
True love isn’t boastful, and it’s not unkind, love doesn’t argue, it’s
good for heart and mind,
Love is a power, greater than fear
Love is a power greater than tears
Love is a power
Learn of it’s ways
To power a new world and a new day.
STORY BEHIND THE SONG: This song is based on what I feel
is a little known fact – that love IS a power, and is ultimately
stronger than anything that comes against it, if we just don’t give up
in our true unfailing practice of it in every situation. These words in
principle can even be found in the Bible at 1 Corinthians chapter 13 -
so why don't more folks who claim to live by the Bible practice this? I
would guess that in order for love to BE a POWER, it must be put into
action - This is more than just words - it's a commitment - a WAY of
life! I hope all who hear this song will look for ways to honor,
nurture and express this power in each life activity.

Unauthorized duplication is a violation of applicable laws.
Freedom frightens faint-hearted ones for they’re afraid to fly
Rather than walk in beauty, they just choose to die.
For freedom chases a rainbow and catches it in a dream
Swallows it whole inside itself, as a river consumes a stream.
Freedom is a star fire shining, so far above the moon,
And lacks nothing in it’s passion, for it’s always full of room
And freedom glows with sunlight and helps the flowers bloom.
Oh won’t you COME along, and LEARN freedom’s song?
Chorus:
Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye wa yelo. Hoye, Hoye, Hoye wa yelo.
Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye wa yelo.
Taninyan nawajinyo okihi
It’s natural ways are foreign to the likes of modern man,
Yet it drifts high with clouds of laughter and loves where ever it can
And tracks across the night snow just to kiss a distant land.
Oh won’t you come along, and SING freedom’s song.
Chorus:
I fly high without a parachute, I fly high without a plane,
My wings aren’t drenched in alcohol,
I fly high without cocaine,
For I am high on the GIFT of life,
that runs rampant in our veins.
I thrill with the love of brotherhood, and I know this love
Can bring world change.
I’m flyin' high, I’m flying free,
since I learned that true freedom LIVES (in me)!
Freedom walks before me, now I follow in her step.
Confinement no longer hides me, I no longer feel inept.
She takes me to her mountain where now I sing out her song
A lullaby of comfort with the sounds to heal all wrong
Oh won’t you sing along, yes sing freedom’s song.
Chorus:
If only they would listen, if everyone would see,
ALL could live in freedom and learn her melody,
oh how grand this life would be!
Yes the whole world would be free and sing
“Freedom lives – in me!”
Oh won’t you sing along,
and LIVE IN freedom’s song!
Chorus:
Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye wa yelo. Hoye, Hoye, Hoye wa yelo.
Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye, Hoye wa yelo.
Taninyan nawajinyo okihi
Taninyan nawajinyo okihi
Wa o, Wicozani
Oyate! Iya wa oo welo Yanipi kta ca
Footnote: Chorus
TRANSLATION:
Respectfully - following is the Lakota translation of chorus – roughly:
Hoye - Send a voice – as in a prayer put into action by the way we
“walk” – live our lives
Hoye wa yelo - I am sending a voice (speaking as in prayer, and willing
to put my prayer into action by the way I think, speak, act and live on
this earth as always in the sight of our Creator)
Taninyan nawajinyo okihi –
Stand up, manifest it, it can be done (walk –live- in a sacred manner so
that all things can be blessed by your life and your expression of who
you are)
Wa o – I come
Wicozani – Good health (good health in the future for all the people on
this earth)
Oyate – Nation! (Not just relatives or extended family, but ALL our
relations, the four legged, two legged, finned ones, winged ones,
crawling ones, plant and root “people”, stars,
rocks – all that IS, creation)
Iya wa oo welo yanipi kta ca – that the “people (Oyate)” – that ALL may LIVE!
THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG: This is a prayer that speaks
of a time when the earth will be restored to it’s pristine harmony, and
for a time again when all living things created for this planet will
live in health, beauty, balance and in peaceful relationship with one another
and Creator.
This prayer has been voiced for centuries by the many prayers of the
Lakota people, relating to the flowering tree blooming once again and
the time when the sacred hoop is mended. People from all nations,
tribes, peoples and tongues have prayed for this, and it is a prophecy
resonating in many cultures and considered so sure a hope that it is mentioned as having already taken
place as found in the Bible at Revelation 21:3,4, indicating to some, that it is
a sure promise from our Creator – the source of true freedom – and it
WILL be done.
It is my feeling that
Freedom is not something that can be fought for, or
earned, but a natural gift that comes with the gift of life, and
continues to be a decision that each of us must own/accept andLIVE with
joy, respect and response-ability.
PILAMAYEAH
& WOPILA & THANK YOU
My buffalo heart can barely contain the appreciation I feel for the many
lessons I have learned and gifts of Spirit I have received from my association
(some pleasant and some not so pleasant) with
these people who have come into my life- in order of my numinously meeting them - Oliver Lee, raised and
taught since a child by the Grandfathers in the Black Hills as his
relatives, Wolf Robe (Cheyenne), Young
Man Afraid of His Horses (Lakota), Navaho
Chief the Buffalo Nation and especially the white buffalo and
their families I have met throughout my life since a child, in person
and in many dreams, including
White Cloud,
Crazy Horse, Black Elk , Dawson Has No Horses, (Lakota-Dakota), David Allen (Navaho-Hopi), Red
Tale (Yaqui), Charles Fast Horse
(Oglala Lakota), Kelly Two Wolves (Metis), Ted Andrews, Ehanamani
(Lakota), Artist Vic Runnels (Lakota), Mike Little Man (Lakota), Chief Red Cloud (Lakota), Grandma Margaret Yankton (Lakota), Storm Seymour (Meskwaki)
, Jim Lee (Metis), Grandma Bullhead (Metis) Dr. Robert Ghost Wolf
(Metis) and mentor Frank Fools Crow,
Blue Otter (Cherokee),
Kenneth Meadows Joe Waterman (Arapahoe), Victor (Mandan), Jola LeBeau
(Shoshone), Grandma Mary Thunder,
Karen
Lake,
Arvol Looking Horse (of the Horse
Nation and Keeper of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe), Eagle Heart Flying, to name just a few
of those who have graciously supported me (sometimes unintentionally) since my re-awakening to my
life and work with the lessons that have come through them, encouragement , prayers,
songs, ceremonies, art, stories, and in their many gifts and ways of be-ing
and living that I am only now beginning to understand in learning and
carrying on in my song and simpler earth-friendly life ways.
I send many
thanks also to all in their extended families and tribes who have included me in their
get-togethers since our first timely and very synchronous meetings,
in person, in teaching, in example or in their writings! I have learned
so very much, and not always in the ways I would
have wished, but I can truthfully say it has been very REAL - memorable,
unexpected,
powerful, heart-touching and sometimes very humorous and always entertaining!
Thank you
Charles Wicasa Wakan, for your strangeness, your crazy and lifelong commitment to carrying the
ways of the old ones, and all the very shocking and backwards Heyoka
ways you walk too, that have received my prayerful and rapt attention so
that I may learn the things needed to carry my responsibility to
completion; also to Joe W. (Arapahoe Medicine practitioner) for
encouragement and blessings. As with the many people mentioned
above, you have each spent a lifetime giving through your commitments,
and in so many rich, earth nurturing ways and life honoring teachings, generously, tirelessly given to so many "non-Indian"
people who you have included in your caring and sharing and throughout many
years of work with “urban Indians” – that the people may live!
Thanks again is also extended here to Grandma Margaret Yankton (who
has now passed on) for
translating the Lakota words that came with this "Freedom" song in my
dream. Thank you for the many prayers you offered regarding the
making of the "White Haired Sunrise" CD until it manifested, and for listening to my songs and assuring me that the Lakota
words were appropriate so that I could gift it with honor and respect to
the ears of Lakota people, the buffalo nation, as well as all the people
of the earth, from the four directions. Also many thanks to
Arapahoe cultural advisors
Mike C'Hair,
Grandma Black Eagle Woman, and
Arapahoe Cultural Advisor William C'Hair (affectionately called "Icky John")
for
help with Arapahoe words and understandings for songs that have since
come in dreams, now recorded on my
"Prophecy Keeper" CD project in the beautiful
way - to remind all humans that we each hold a solemn responsibility as
caretakers of the earth.

“Thank you,
wise woman, for crossing our path. But what is the likelihood that
you’re really a Wolf Sings Bunny? The Wolf Mother, is, after-all, a
most fierce, and gentle nurturer. Wise beyond arrogance, incapable of
evil. It feeds on the hearts of rabbits, which is the source of it’s
strength. Even mice. Either way, you can only bring good to this land."

Previous to 2000, Bunny did not know there was such a thing as a white
buffalo, thinking it was only the stuff of her ongoing childhood
dreams. But within 4 days of dreaming the song "Dance, Buffalo Dance!"
following the directions of a coffee shop owner, to help her catch up with
friend Red Tale who was visiting the Black Hills from Iowa, Bunny found herself "accidentally" at a ranch where she
took the above photo of
Rainbow Spirit and Miracle Moon who have how been moved to
Spirit Mountain Ranch in Arizona (just as she had seen in her dream,
and whose names were included in the dream song
"Dance, Buffalo, Dance!!").
She later
discovered that the very
week she had spent 3 days and 2
nights on Hanbleceya in the Black Hills, (which she had arranged for
4 years previously) that Sunrise and
Spirit Thunder had been born.
She was also honored to have been discovered and hired by the
National Buffalo
Museum in Jamestown, ND, 2004
to be in the parade and do her cultural music concert for their
yearly
Tatanka Celebration - commemorating the
8th
year of life of the ONLY FEMALE ALBINO white buffalo in the world -
White Cloud,
and invited again in 2005 for another
public concert and school workshops. Interesting
the song she sang at both concerts
("Mitakuye
Oyasin") was one written June 20,
2002, gifted in dream, with the opening
words being "White
Cloud" and which is slated to be
recorded on her next CD project when funding becomes available...

NOW IS THE TIME for the 8th Ceremony!
|
( 8-8-03)
The
8th Ceremony (Walk /
Live NOW in a Sacred Manner)
A Message Bunny learned
from the "White Haired Lady
who lives in the East" that inspired these collections of songs... received
in the
HEART of "turtle island" - and now to be shared with any who still know how to
listen to the The Black Hills, and all sacred or parts of natural wild
open places still left
reasonably unspoiled by man, those wildish natural spaces that still resonate with this message, as do
many true prophecies written, sung about, prayed about, and shared from a
variety of cultures, tribes, tongues, from well known
and reliable spiritual sources of truth and love. This
wisdom, and part of the
message I have been gifted, is this:
|
 This Black Hills Sunrise
photo was taken on the way to the recording studio near Ghost Canyon
Ranch in Hermosa, SD, March 11, 2003
the day after mixing the flute
harmonies on the "White Buffalo Peace Song" and the
“Freedom”
song.
Most of the "White Haired Sunrise"
songs were gifted on Hanbleceya Sept. 11, 2001 and four more days atop the "bridge"
on thunder-being mountain (Harney Peak) May 2002 and, again, May
2004 in the heart of the Black Hills. |
We are living in the last days of this system of things. Great
change is ahead.
World events prophesied - like a unique fingerprint for our time -
shared by true prophets of many faiths and cultures- contained
for centuries in stories passed from one generation to another, or left
in pictographs on rocks, petroglyphs, and printed plainly for centuries
upon the landscape, in the messages from living in harmony with our
natural world, for sincere truth-seekers to read even more recently in
many holy books, including even the Bible (for the discerning reader) -
all clearly MARK this unique time on Mother Earth, as the "last days"
of the power of the lie.
In Lakota prophecy the births of the 7th generation white buffalo were
given as one of many signs in combination with other visions and
prophecies that would alert humans to THIS time, when global
"trouble" would culminate for all the living things on earth, and during
this time, many nations would suffer before the great shift to a long
hidden truth.
|
But all of these "end time" prophecies and the events that
would alert thoughtful hearts to pay attention to these times - also resonate with the understanding that those who are committed to walking
in harmony and with the wisdom of the Creator - the “Good Red Road”
- TRUTH (to live in harmony with the principles that nurture life and peace among
ALL our relationships) - could live on to see the prophesied
peace among all nations, peoples, tribes and tongues, that would follow.
In Black Elks' vision this is called the flowering tree
time, and in many indigenous cultures it has been passed down in
teachings from generation to generation, spoken of with words full of
hope - the great cleansing time, and a time for the
"mending of the sacred hoop" (the "kingdom come").
It is my understanding that we NOW live in this time! It seems clear that as we grow to
recognize humankind is a global family , as stewards, given the earth
as a trust, to care for and protect for future generations, we
must realize there is not room for the continued practice of selfish, thoughtless,
manipulative and aggressively arrogant and disrespectful ways that have brought us to this point in mankind's
history.
|
NOW - now is the time
for all paths to lead us to practice the 8th Ceremony!
In order to
LIVE each must
WALK in a SACRED MANNER.

8-8-8
The "White Buffalo Peace Song"
is
a prayer that we may each use this
time, and every gift, asset and opportunity now to open our hearts
to
truly LEARN about and daily WALK in the life nurturing ways of
truth, love and harmony, peace. |

The 8th Ceremony:
LIVE and WALK
EACH MOMENT
in a Sacred Manner in
truth, harmony and in the beauty way of orderliness,
manifesting the
balance of love, freedom, peace, and
respect in ALL our dealings and life activities! |
|
In many cultures 7 (seven) has
been considered a sacred number associated with spiritual teachings,
teachings that have only partially, yet not fully brought us into
the complete peace and harmony that presents itself to us now
learning a new paradigm. These
truths through the generations have indeed led us to NOW. 8 (eight) is the sign/number
of infinity - manifesting - the power contained in the circle of
life that must be LIVED in respect of the circle of life, of wholeness.
But in order to LIVE in
peace and harmony - in order to survive the coming chaos as the
cleansing of earth proceeds - now is the time for the
8th CEREMONY to be put into practice in human lives. BE-come the Ceremony.
How?
Troubled = out of balance and not in harmony Un-troubled= in
balance, in harmony
Dis-ease = out of balance and not in harmony Ease = in balance, in harmony
Un-whole = out of balance, not complete, not in harmony Whole = in balance, in harmony - thus in peace
Healer = a reminder Healing = coming back into the place to understanding,
appreciating and living in the natural balance, harmony and state of peace and unique and beautiful wholeness for and in which we were created
The circle is round, the earth is round, thus wherever we are
upon it,we are on the "top" of the world. This is where we are at all
times!
Sometimes we forget,
which makes us feel we our troubled, diseased, un-whole
(as many of us may have been told our whole lives).
We knew we were whole and good and perfect from our first breath,
but many of us from an early age were taught otherwise,
and as we distanced ourselves from our knowing of our perfection,
dis-ease became our way of life.
But if dis-ease were based on truth,
why does our body and life force, and everything in nature,
always seek, and constantly work towards balance, wholeness,
health when the balancing is tipped away from the center?
The truth is that
Everything IN us stands for ease,
wholeness, health
and love,
and we each are
IN the center and AT the top of the
circle of life!
Photo taken 8-8-8 click photo for more information on this crop
circle.

That is the best kept secret, the truth which we all know,
but have denied in order
to "fit" within the lies and contemporary belief
systems now in place in this "troubled" world.
Thus the very feeling of un-ease, or dis-ease stems from our
inner knowing that
we have been lied to about our own
perfection,
beauty, balance, and lovableness.
So, healing, happens as we are standing in the circle
(the figure 8, symbol of inifinity,
the NOW)
and
remembering we are at
all times on "top"
and in the center of the circle of life.
We each are a beautiful part of the whole, the circle,
and the circle always comes around again,
to beauty, balance, harmony.
This is what I call the 8th ceremony.
It is time for the 8th ceremony, to recognize our wholeness in
the circle of life.
BE the ceremony.
As we each recognize we stand on top
and in the center of our own special and unique
part of the circle,
the fog clears from our eyes
and we see in actuality that
the circle is whole and round.
Now is the time for "healing"
for knowing and owning and
living this truth
(what has been true and whole
all along).
Make the circle round.
(I wrote the 8th ceremony ideas above
back in 2003, but I could not resist including the photos of 8-8-8
crop circle, that seems to confirm in pictorial language this
underSTANDing) |
This is not a ritual as some consider "ceremony" - it is a
WAY of
living!
It is reflected in human activities - sacred action
- that stems from knowing
we ARE what we think - DAILY - and moment
by moment. (more songs about this will be released with the
5th CD from Bunny Sings Wolf - a double CD planned for 2007 as Spirit
directs).
The 8th"ceremony" requires that each be whole-souled in
our individual commitment to LIVE in harmony
with the principles of good relationship with our Creator, with each
other, and all the created things put here for a purpose.
As the sun now sets on ways that don’t work, may we each bring our lives
and the teachings brought down to us into complete-ness in right action.
If we want to LIVE as part of the whole - be-come the solution
instead of the soon-to-be-passing problem, NOW we must nurture
humility for learning and understanding, commitment and the courage
needed to experience the true freedoms and joys ahead. By
LIVING this way NOW, we have opportunity in seeing the sunrise of the
upcoming era of true peace and harmony that shows up in ALL
activities of life - respect for ALL creation and the One who
created it.
This is way the 8th ceremony connects the loose ends of many
generations of thoughtlessly loose living, of love and life lost, into
the
mended sacred hoop
of life ways that come full circle to living in ways that conserve
instead of consume, that nurture the energies, gifts and resources in
the lives and for the benefit of all our relations.

|
I am honored that
you have taken the time to listen to these songs, the music "medicine" I
have been gifted to share with you, in hopes you will share them with
others, and show openness of
heart to experience and to
open up understanding to know their meanings
and gifts.
It is my hope that light and peace will bless your life in this
beautiful day dawning, that you will honor the life in YOU, and in your
unique imprint upon life as you walk in a sacred manner, encourage others and make wise
choices now, living always in love!
